Kristen’s Hemlock’s 5-year-old son Mason had gone for hiking with his two friends and babysitter on Wednesday in Cope Park, Alaska. Mason’s foot slid and he fell 15 feet from a cliff and into the water below. 14-year-old Riley after witnessing the ordeal, realized he had to act immediately. Riley narrated to InsideEdition.com how Mason hit a rock very hard and then fell into the water. He jumped into the freezing water to take hold of Mason and when they moved to a pool of still water, he gave him off to Seth Gerrin, his friend. Seth then rushed Mason to the paramedics.
“Mason does not know how to swim. He would not be here with us today were it not for Riley. He saved his life.” Hemlock told InsideEdition.com. Hemlock wrote a Facebook post in a community group to find the life savers and Riley’s grandmother replied. He met Riley on Friday at a small ceremony at Riley’s high school that was honoring him for his heroic act.
“I got the opportunity to express gratitude to him and I am very thankful.” Hemlock said. Unbelievably, Mason survived that ordeal with small scratches, but Riley’s bravery will stay imprinted in Hemlock’s mind forever.
